Opposition leader Raila Odinga and Controversial Kapseret MP Hon. Oscar Sudi on Wednesday had a lunch meeting at the Pumpkin Restaurant in Nairobi.
Sudi who has been a fierce critic of the former Prime Minister and ODM Party leader surprised many people and has opened a lot of speculations among Kenyans on the contents of discussion between him and Mr. Odinga.
Blogger Robert Allai took to social media on Wednesday evening announcing that a meeting between the two nemesis had happened.
” Oscar Sudi met Raila Odinga for lunch today at The Pumpkin Restaurant in Kilimani. Few hours later, ODM legislators wanted President Uhuru to resign. I am told Raila told Oscar Sudi that he can’t trust Uhuru to cross with him the river safely. The crocodiles are not tamed.” Alai tweeted.
Later, Oscar Sudi through his social media platforms confirmed that indeed there was a meeting between him and Raila Odinga but denied politics was part of the agenda.
“Earlier today I bumped into Former PM, Raila Odinga having lunch at a popular restaurant. We had lunch together and thereafter chit chats. Raila is like a father to me. We were close buddies with his son the late Fidel Odinga. I asked him about the progress of Fidel’s children and family at large. When I meet him it doesn’t necessarily mean that we discuss politics.” The MP posted.
However, according to netizens and political analyst, a meeting between the two can never happened without prior planning adding that the two may have met to discuss politics.
A section of Kenyans were left talking about a possible coalition between Raila Odinga and Deputy President Dr. William Ruto ahead of 2022 general election.
However, sources privy to the meeting who spoke to the Daily Statesman confirmed that tension and fear of betrayal has surrounded the handshake pact between Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta.
” DP Ruto’s popularity in President Uhuru’s home turf watered down the hopes of selling Raila Odinga in the region and the President’s allies are worried about their political career if they continue associating themselves with Mr. Odinga.” a source said.
The noted that intelligence reports have confirmed that Mt. Kenya residents are not ready to back anyone else apart from the Deputy President who according to them saved their Son’s presidency from being taken away at the time his current advisors who nowhere to be seen.
One revealed that the meeting between Raila Odinga and DP Ruto’s key ally was one of the meetings that has been happening behind the scenes steered by elders and businessmen from the Kalenjin and Luo communities.
” Elders from the two communities are worried of betrayal. We know President Kenyatta cannot be trusted anymore and therefore our elders have agreed to hurry the hatchet and find a perfect course for DP Ruto and Raila Odinga, ” said a vocal ODM MP who sought anonymity.
It has also been revealed that a meeting between elders from the two communities was first held in Eldoret and attended by 4 ODM MPs, One Senator and two Governors from Nyanza regions and we’re hosted by a powerful Northrift governor and one MP from the region.
The Delegation from Nyanza region is said to have bidding for an alliance between their two sons.
” The Raila-Sudi meeting should not cause any political alarm, even the worst political enemies make alliances, it has happened in the past, it will happen again.” the ODM legislator added.
They added that Raila and Sudi may have met to discuss on the progress of the ongoing talks between the Luo-Kalenjin elders.
The meetings between Raila and Kapseret legislator came hours before ODM key leaders bashed Jubilee government and demanded President Uhuru Kenyatta to resign and pave way for elections.
Senate Minority Leader James Orengo and his National Assembly counterpart Hon Junet Mohamed lashed out at Uhuru Kenyatta for leading a government full of massive corruption and misrule.
The Suna East MP further urged the president to solve wrangles within Jubilee party which according to him has slowed service delivery to Kenyans.
“Under this oppressive heat, mild corruption and misrule the president should have resigned and pave way for a fresh election.” Junet Mohamed said.
On his part, Siaya Senator expressed his displeasure with the current state of Government and demolitions in Kariobangi that has rendered more than 5000 people homeless.
The remarks by the two confidants of Raila Odinga, has left Kenyans questioning the state of Handshake between president Uhuru Kenyatta and the former premier, with ODM supporters terming President Kenyatta as an epitome of betrayal and a person who should not be trusted by all means possible.
The supporters of the Handshake who have been President Kenyatta’s staunch supporters seems to be throwing some cold shoulders on the unfolding events.
The discussion of political betrayals might be experienced going forward.
President Kenyatta’s family has since been accused by Kenyan activists led by Dr. Miguna Miguna as the origin of political betrayals since independence.
Mzee Jomo Kenyatta as been said to have betrayed Jaramogi oginga Odinga, Paul Ngei, Gama Pinto Pio and other people. His son, president Uhuru Kenyatta, as said by the activists has betrayed his Deputy, Dp William Ruto.
