Siaya Senator James Orengo has hinted at going on with plans to impeach Deputy President Dr William Ruto.
Senator Orengo accused the Deputy President of failing to advise his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking at the burial of Peter Sirawa, father of Awendo MP Walter Owino in Ombasa, Migori County, Orengo said it is time to introduce an impeachment motion in parliament that will show William Ruto the way out of Government.
Mr Orengo who is also the Senate Minority leader said he had earlier filed a motion of impeaching William Ruto for disrespecting the President.
“You cannot insult the government you are part of. Ruto sits at the National Security Council where he is getting all the intelligence briefs and therefore he cannot go against the wish of his government,” he said.
However, the statement by Senator Orengo has been dismissed by DP Ruto’s allies led by Jubilee Party’s Deputy Secretary-General Caleb Kositany who is also the MP for Soi constituency and vocal Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei.
According to a report by the Standard paper, the two legislators dismissed their ODM counterparts daring them to introduce the motion of Impeachment as soon as possible.
Kositany told off Orengo saying ODM does not have numbers to impeach the Deputy President.
“To impeach the Deputy President, you need two-thirds which they don’t have in the National Assembly. We want to tell them to bring it on because it will show who has the numbers and who has the backing of the majority poor,” said Kositany.
On his part, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei was equally unimpressed by Orengo’s calls to impeach DP Ruto even as he poured cold water on such attempts.
“It is not the first time he is saying that. Let him bring it on. They don’t have the numbers neither do they have the grounds,” said Cherargei
