Controversial lawyer, Dr. Miguna Miguna has bashed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s change of guard in Kenya Defense Forces ( KDF) terming it a tribal affair.

On 30 April, President Kenyatta announced new changes in the Kenya military following the impending retirement of Chief of Defense Forces General Samson Mwathethe.

In the Changes, Lieutenant General Robert Kariuki Kibochi was promoted to Genaral and appointed Chief of Defense Forces Designate.

However, the embattled lawyer and self-declared General of the outlawed Kenya Resistance movement says Kinochi’s appointment is a scheme by Uhuru Kenyatta to overstay in power.

” So predictable. So incomprehensibly tribalist that Despot Uhuru Kenyatta would appoint Robert Kariuki Kibochi Chief of Defence Forces! Kenya belongs to all 43 ethnic communities. Not just to the Kikuyu Mafia. This PIG-HEADED TOXIC TRIBALISM must come to an end!” Miguna posted.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also promoted Colonel Lawrence Gituma to Brigadier and appointed him Deputy Commander Kenya Navy while Brigadier Peter Njiru was promoted to Major General and appointed commandant of Kenya Military Academy.

He also promoted Brigadier Charles Muriu Kahariri to Major General and appointed Senior Directing Staff Kenya Maritime National Defense College.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also posted Brigadier Dennis Nyaga Kamuri to Kenya Ordnance Factories and appointed Deputy Managing Director.

Lieutenant General(Rtd) Joseph Kasaon who comes from Rift Valley and served as Vice Chief of Defense Forces before his retirement was expected to replace General Samson Mwathethe.

According to the Military Kasaon was forced to retire due to what was said ‘illness’.

However, The Daily Statesman learnt that according to Kenya Military rules dubbed Tonje Rules that was named after General(Rtd) Daudi Tonje requires that if a Lieutenant General reaches retirement age before the time of promotion to General, the Commander in Chief will be forced to appoint another to Deputies the Chief of Defense forces.

In 2018, President Kenyatta promoted Major Genaral Robert Kibochi, then Kenya Army Commander as Lieutenant General and appointed as Vice Chief of Defense Forces who replaced Joseph Kasaon.

Uhuru’s critics read mischief and allegedly term the changes as a scheme to protect his power by ensuring only his close allies remains in command command ranks of KDF.

The Outgoing General, Samson Mwathethe is believed to be a toxic no-nonsense guy who inherited military leadership from his predecessor General(Rtd) Karangi.

Before his General Karangi’s exit, National Defense Council was in dilemma on who was set to succeed him but later settled on Mwathethe.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tribesmen have been the major beneficiaries in most of his appointments and changes in government.
