ODM party leader Raila Odinga was on Wednesday afternoon forced to end his BBI campaign prematurely in Githurai after Pro-Ruto supporters stormed the rally.
The youths who were chanting pro-Ruto, Wheelbarrow & Hustler Nation slogans confused the security officers with a section of them to join the youths in the chant.
The youths, who were chanting pro-Deputy President William Ruto slogans, threw stones on vehicles including Mr Odinga’s chase cars.
The windscreen of a vehicle belonging to Nation Media Group was also destroyed during the fracas that forced the police to use tear gas to disperse the youths.
Raila has been on a campaign blitz to popularise BBI as it heads to the county assemblies after the electoral agency on Tuesday confirmed more than one million signatures had been verified as supporting the bill.
During his address, the ODM leader said, “Kila Mkenya ako na haki ya kuishi na kufanya kazi mahali popote nchini (Every Kenyan has the right to live and work wherever they wish in this country.”
“We will not relent on our resolve to build a peaceful and stable country.”
He also pointed out that most of the promises made by the Jubilee government are yet to be fulfilled eight years later.ed eight years later.
